Kobe often said his greatest legacy was passing the Mamba Mentality to the next generation. In 2020, Nike Basketball took up that mantle with Mamba Week.

Pro-athletes like Anthony Davis, Naomi Osaka, Devin Booker, Sabrina Ionescu and Diana Taurasi passed on Kobe’s wisdom, just as he’d taught it to them through the of pillars; Passion, Focus, Honesty, Fearless, and Optimism. After a year like 2020, it was the inspirational message we all needed to keep going.

On a personal note, being on the inside of these conversations and hearing the impact Kobe had on so many incredible athletes was such an honor. Particularly at the height of BLM and so soon after Kobe’s passing. It was an experience I will never forget. #MambaForever

Each day was dedicated to one of Kobe’s pillars: Passion, Focus, Honesty, Fearless, and Optimism. We shot interviews with his mentees, proteges, teammates, and admirers to pass on what Kobe taught them about each pillar. With Kobe’s passing still so fresh, it was an emotional task but each and every athlete we spoke to wanted to step up and pass on the Mamba Mentality to the next generation just as passionately as Kobe did.
