#8WordStory

Queensland Writers' Centre

redsuit advertising

Visual artists get all the good ad spaces, but what about our writers? For goa's competitive community pitch, we paired up with Queensland Writers' Centre to give local writers a chance to realise their authorly ambitions - on a billboard. All you had to do was submit a story in 8 words or less. Submissions were judged by Australian author, Nick Earls, with the best entries displayed daily across the goa grid outdoor network.

Eight small words took off in a big way with over 10,000 entries from across the world in just four weeks, including some big names in writing and publishing, proving you don’t have to write a novel to be a writer.

Awards

#8WordStory was awarded 'Best use of technology and innovation' in the Outdoor Media Association's Creative Collection quarterly competition.

“Story telling is a potent tool. There is popular lore that Ernest Hemingway made a bet with other writers that he could write a novel in six words. After penning ‘For sale, baby shoes, never worn’ he collected his winnings. The Queensland Writer’s Centre ‘#8wordstory’ is the modern day take on Hemingway and so a perfect match with the OOH format – a glance medium that evokes something within you and captures your attention.”
— Competition judge Peta McDowell, Senior Art Director, M&C Saatchi
